Updated: Mar 2, 2022

Over 150 senior rabbis from across the globe, recently converged at the Snipiskes Jewish cemetery in Vilnius, to appeal to Lithuanian authorities to restore the cemetery, according to Jewish law.

The group representing Jewish communities from the United States, Canada, South America, the United Kingdom, Europe, Israel and Australasia, were unanimous in their request to the Lithuanian government, to appoint an authorized Rabbinical authority to oversea the future of the cemetery.

All rabbinical activity in Europe falls under the Conference of European Rabbis. (CER)

Rabbi Mordechai Neugroschel, a leading Rabbi in the Jewish world, said that the word "Bais Hachaim" in Hebrew which mean "cemetery", is translated as "House of Life." That is because cemeteries are for the living, a place for the living to pray to God.

The delegation, meeting and travel were coordinated by Dirshu.
